Physical Therapy
Physical therapists help clients correct and prevent short or long-term movement problems that affect their ability to perform everyday activities. This typically includes a combination of exercise, strength training, gait training, manual therapy techniques and education to promote optimum health and function. Physical therapy following orthopedic surgery or strength training after a cardiac or neurological issue, can speed recovery and maximize your physical strength.
Occupational Therapy
Occupational therapy promotes health and well being through occupation. That means we help people across their lifespan to do the things they want and need to do. It is a form of therapy for those recuperating from physical or mental illness that encourages rehabilitation through the performance of activities required in daily life.
Occupational therapy can help people with disabilities return to their life roles as parent, spouse, employee, homemaker or friend. Through upper body strengthening and coordination, fine and gross motor control development, training in the use of self-help aids and work/home evaluations, occupational therapists promote safety and help people relearn and master the skills needed for self-care, work and play.
Cardiac Rehabilitation
The Cardiac Rehabilitation team consists of a Medical Director, Physical Therapists and Assistants, and a Registered Nurse. La Paz offers Phase I (inpatient), Phase II (outpatient), Phase III (Maintenance) Cardiac Rehabilitation, Cardiac Risk Factor Education, and Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD) exercise programs.
The hospital's Cardiac Rehabilitation area opened in 2010 in the physical therapy building. It provides ongoing education, support and carefully monitored exercise during the initial phases of recovery from a heart attack, coronary artery stenting or after heart surgery. It also provides care to newly diagnosed cardiomyopathy, heart failure, heart transplant and Peripheral Artery Disease patients. The center is equipped with exercise bikes, treadmills, ellipticals, recumbent elliptical and bikes, NuSteps, and weight training equipment. Education is a major part of the program and is provided for enrollees and their families on-site.
